BECOMING A MEMBER OF CONNECTICUT FIREFIGHTERS PIPES AND DRUMS |
|
The Connecticut Firefighters Pipes and Drums are always looking for new members. No experience is necessary, but always helpful. The band provides instruction for new pipers and drummers. Practice is held on Tuesday evenings, from 7pm – 9pm at the Echo Hose Firehouse in Shelton. Please refer to the web site for directions and to verify our practice schedule.
Prospective members must be affiliated with an emergency services department in order to be eligible to join our ranks. The band is primarily comprised of career firefighters but we welcome other professionals from Law Enforcement and EMS departments as well as volunteers from Fire and EMS.
Both piping and drumming require a small financial investment to start. Student pipers must purchase a practice chanter and student drummers must purchase drum sticks and a practice pad. Cost for these supplies is less than $100. Lessons provided at band practice are provided at no cost. Private lessons can be arranged and cost approximately $30/hour. The biggest investment is your time. There is a direct correlation between the amount of time you invest as a student to the time you are street ready to play with the band. Pipers can be on the street with-in 1 year. Drummers can be on the street in less time depending on whether you are playing side drum (snare), spinning tenor or bass.
If you have questions concerning eligibility, instruction or about becoming a member you may call Band President Ken Walker at 203-232-6565.
